Preservation Of Various Spices, Pulses & Others.

BISCUITS
  • Put blotting paper in the box of biscuits to keep it fresh for longer time.
SOUR ITEM
  • To keep lemons fresh for a long time put them in water.Change water everyday.Or store them in a vessel containing salt.
  • To preserve tamarind for the whole year put salt cubes in the tamarind container.
  • If lemons become hard in fridge keep them in warm water.
SPICES
  • To protect masala from cobweb keep some black pepper seeds in it.
  • To keep green chilly fresh, mix turmeric powder in it, & keep bottle in cool place.
  • To preserve ginger for longer time keep the pieces in lemon water.
  • To preserve ginger put it in a flowerpot or under the mud in the garden.
  • To preserve turmeric powder for the whole year put 5-6 red chillies in it.
  • Put salt cubes in red chilly powder to preserve it for a longer time.
FRUITS
  • Apple gets bitter if kept with carrot in freeze.
  • To avoid blackening of ripe bananas wrap them in polythene bag and keep it in fridge.
SWEET ITEM
  • Put jaggery pieces in oil to preserve it longer.
  • 3-4 cloves in sugar protect it from ants & other insects & also removes it.
  • Dry ginger powder in sweet pickle to preserve it for long.
  • Put jaggery in bottle containing almond to avoid it being stale.
  • Put 2-3 grains of black pepper in honey to preserve it for a longer time.
SALT
  • Put jaggery in bottle containing almond to avoid it being stale.
  • To avoid salt being moistened put some grains of rice in salt container.
PULSES / CEREALS
  • Add saffron with some uncooked basmati rice, to avoid spoilage.
  • To avoid insects breeding in pulses & dals put clumps of asafoetida in the container.
  • Put neem leaves in food grains to avoid it getting spoiled.
  • Keep camphor tablets in rice.
  • Salt pieces in rice protect it from germs.
  • Keep basil leaves or asafoetida in pulses to keep insects away.
  • Dry leaves of fenugreek in wheat protect it from spoilage.
VEGETABLES
  • To preserve fresh coriander for longer time wrap it in a newspaper & then into a plastic bag & keep it in the fridge.
  • Keep coconut pieces in water & then put them in fridge to preserve them.
  • To keep vegetables fresh refrigerate it by keeping the cut vegetables in cardboard box.
  • To preserve green peas for a year refrigerate partly boiled peas in soda.
OTHER
  • Keep dry coconut in udad dal to avoid it getting spoilt.
  • To keep paneer fresh for a longer time put drops of vinegar into it.
  • Milky product in steel vessel protects it from spoilage.
