Why
the name 'Kapaya' ?
Around
1585 AD (Samvat 1640), when this village was populated by Sodha
Rajputs, in a small battle near Bhukhi river , two brave
warrier brothers were cut down (kapaya) by opponents, & the
village became popular as KAPAYA.
Later
on Kapaya was populated by Rajputs, Gurjar Jain, Bhatiyas &
Suthar (Carpainters), Khojas . As a lot of wood was available
around the village, carpaintery work of Kapaya was in a full flow
& lots of wooden articles were exported to the different countries
via Mundra Port. Then Bhatiyas & Khojas started migrating
towards East Africa. A vacuum of population created in Village
Kapaya.
Around
1734 (Samvat 1790) , First Oswal Jain family came to Kapaya. Gradually
Oswal Jains dominated over the Kapaya. At the later stage, Oswal
Jains came to Mumbai for buisness purpose. The village Kapaya
became more prosperous & one of the leading village in Kutch.
